Freemasonry, just the word itself stirs discussion, a secret society that has been the target of conspiracy theories almost since it’s inception. How much is true? There is an exoteric and an esoteric meaning given in their writings and symbology, the society copies Christianity in the sense that they use allegory to cloak their true messages for those who have been “illumined,” another term which they stole from Christianity. The difference being, Christianity is for everyone, their “secret truths” are reserved only for the adepts. For my article on how The New Age Movement (also perpetuated by freemasonry) has inverted Orthodox Christianity specifically, click here.
For example, the exoteric meaning of the ‘G’ in the freemason symbol is that of “Grand Architect.” This is taught to most, but the underlying esoteric meaning is the ‘G’ represents Gnosis or Gnosticism. As we learn from Eliphas Levi, the man responsible for the famous drawing of the Baphomet, and of whom the founder of freemasonry, Albert Pike, plagiarizes much of his work Morals & Dogma from. “The G which Freemasons place in the centre of the Burning Star signifies Gnosis and Generation, the two sacred words of the ancient Kabbalah. It also signifies Grand Architect, for the Pentagram, from whatever side it may be looked at, always represents an A.” – Eliphas Levi, Dogme et Rituel de la Haute Magie, vol. II, p. 97. This admission is out in the open for all to see, just as God requires free will so does the devil, the only difference is the devil masques the truth.
This is a topic I’ve been a broken record about and for a reason, Gnosticism is not a long defeated enemy of the early church. It’s alive and well, morphing itself to hide within movies like The Matrix which the conspiracy community glorifies, in freemasonry of the societies that want to control the world, and it’s even infected parts of Western Christianity unknowingly. It has slowly and methodically placed its pieces everywhere waiting for the chance to show it’s face again openly. The Christian Church has always stood opposed to freemasonry, for it has always seen what lies beneath, a familiar foe of Gnostic thought.
History of Connection From
“As late as the 1803 there was a Gnostic Church started for French Templars called the Johannite Church of Primitive Christians, by Bernard-Raymond Fabre-Palaprat. This church later had close ties with Martinist movements, and developed into l’Englise Catholique Gnostique under the influence of Gerard Encause. This Gnostic lineage has continued to exist in various strains to today, some of which only allow Master Masons or Martinists to become members of the church. The Gnostic Johannite Church tradition itself was often mentioned by Eliphas Levi in his writings of the 1800’s, and it is from here that we likewise find mention of it a number of times in Albert Pike’s Morals and Dogma.” – Taken From Freemason Information Website, 2009. “The Kabalah is the key of the occult sciences; and the Gnostics were born of the Kabalists.” – Albert Pike, Morals & Dogma 1871
A Freemason site confirms the connection between freemasonry, the Knights Templar, and Gnosticism. The Knights Templar grew into early Freemasonry. Such ideas can also be found in many of the early Rosicrucian manifestos (if you’re not familiar with the Knights Templar stop and research before continuing further). Albert Pike, quoted from his book Legenda by William Cooper, speaks in allegory in the following passage, “And thus the warfare against the powers of evil that crushed the Order of the Temple goes steadily on, and Freedom marches ever onward toward the conquest of the world.” Cooper explains the powers of evil from Pike’s vantage point are the Christians that crushed the Order of the Temple which refers to the Knights Templar.
Manly P. Hall (33rd degree freemason) in his book, What The Ancient Wisdom Expects of Its Disciples, directly affirms the Gnostic thought, “In the remote past, the gods walked with men and they chose from among the sons of men the wisest and the truest. With these specially ordained and illumined sons, they left the keys of their great wisdom which was the knowledge of good and evil. These illumined ones founded what we know as the ancient mysteries.” This is so blatant it needs no explanation.
“The architects and stone-masons of the Middle Ages borrowed many of the principles of ornamentation, by which they decorated the ecclesiastical edifices which they constructed, from the abstruse symbols of the Gnostics. So, too, we find Gnostic symbols in the Hermetic Philosophy and in the system of Rosicrucianism; and lastly, many of the symbols still used by Freemasonry — such, for instance, as the triangle within a circle, the letter G, and the pentacle of Solomon — have been traced to a Gnostic source.” – Freemason Albert Mackey, Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry and It’s Kindred Sciences, 2014.
Paul warns Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:20 about “the subtleties and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge and spiritual illumination.” The word translated “knowledge” in most translations (“science”in the King James Version) is the Greek gnosis. Literally meaning “to know,” it forms the root of the word Gnosticism. It is not a stretch that Paul refers to Gnosticism here, since both of his letters to Timothy contain warnings against false teachers bringing in foreign concepts that were undermining the faith of church members.
Gnosis itself is not evil, but it’s false application and understanding found in Gnosticism and Freemasonry is catastrophic to the human person. Knowledge itself means nothing without knowledge of God. Freemasonry and Gnosticism share many traits; secret knowledge reserved only for the few, salvation is ultimately by means of knowledge not Christ, the first degree of masonry emphasizes a separation from the material world to transcend material reality as do Gnostics have a disdain for the material, the first three degrees of Masonry are strikingly similar to the Valentinian Gnostics, etc.
Alice Bailey states: “The occult science of the Ancient Magi was concealed under the shadows of the Ancient Mysteries: it was imperfectly revealed by the Gnostics; it is guessed at under the obscurities that cover the pretended crimes of the Templars; and it is found enveloped in enigmas that seem impenetrable, in the Rites of Highest Masonry.” Here we see and throughout other quotes I’ve cited, Gnosticism is traced to the Knights Templar to Freemasonry itself. Gnosticism ultimately from the Ancient Mysteries which is the “knowledge of good and evil” according to Manly P. Hall given from the “gods who walked with men.” The Bible tells us who these “gods” were, and Paul warns us to not believe the false knowledge and false illumination of which they claim. Extinguish the light.
